Auricular Therapy
What is Auricular Therapy?
There is a two way communication between the skin and all organs, glands and tissue of the body. By stimulating certain skin points the progress of a condition can not only be arrested but even reversed bringing the patient back to health with normal function.
Auricular therapy is a healthcare modality in which the external surface of the ear, or auricle, is stimulated to alleviate pathological conditions in other parts of the body. A channel of energy flow circles the body like meridians circle the globe. The goal of auricular therapy is to balance that energy flow, which runs the body and heals the body. Auricular therapy or ear acupuncture, is similar to acupuncture but concentrates on the ear where Dr Nitsch uses a small electrical stimulator, not needles.
What can it treat ?
Since every system & tissue type of the body is represented upon the external ear, auricular therapy is considered a potential source for alleviating any disease. For example it is used to facilitate spinal manipulations. The fact that stimulating auricular points helps release muscle spasms makes it useful in enhancing chiropractic adjustments. It tends to stabilize postural realignment achieved by chiropractic procedures. Here are some other common uses of auricular therapy: appetite control, arthritis. asthma, indigestion, migraines, urinary problems, nervous disorders, appendicitis, tonsillitis, dermatitis, allergic rhinitis, gastric ulcers, insomnia, hepatitis, hypertension, impotency, sunburn, heatstroke, frozen shoulders, tennis elbow, low back pain, smoking, liver conditions, constipation, infertility and many more. There are over 2000 conditions that can be treated by auricular therapy with no age limits. The age range for people treated with auricular therapy in our office is from 2 months to 92 yrs. old.
Where did it begin?
Auricular therapy has a long history in China dating back to 3000 B.C. All recorded systems of classical Acupuncture are attributed to the Chinese medical text, the Yellow Emperor's classic of internal medicine, compiled between 206BCE and 220CE. The first documented application made in the United States was made in 1973 for clinical work by Dr. Michael Smith at Lincoln Hospital in New York, in which auricular acupuncture was successfully performed for withdrawing addicts from opiate drugs, crack cocaine, alcohol and nicotine. It is still used to this day for such cases.
AURICULAR THERAPY FOR SMOKING CESSATION
Auricular therapy is electrical stimulation of specific detectable points on the surface of the auricle or ear. Using different protocols, or in other words different points it can be used to effectively treat thousands of different conditions. Auricular therapy is a branch of acupuncture and works in very much the same way. A return to balance is achieved through stimulation of points on the surface of the body thus re-establishing energy pathways. In the past, prior to your decision to introduce nicotine, these balanced energy pathways had been the normal mode of operation for you.
Your use of nicotine developed an undesirable operating system and a strong chemical dependency. Nicotine is so chemically addicting that it takes only 1 or 2 cigarettes to create the dependency. Utilizing auricular therapy we can stimulate specific points eliminating the dependency by eliminating the withdrawal symptoms. This is due to the fact that the treatment causes a natural release of endorphins, your brain's natural pain killing/feel good chemicals. The satisfaction and energy boost caused by endorphins is actually what a nicotine addict is looking for when they use. We need approximately 72 hrs. to break the cycle because this is the time it takes to get the nicotine out of your system. The reaction for each individual varies. However for the majority just one treatment is sufficient to get them through the 72 hrs. and breaking the addiction.
We offer 6 additional "boosters" over the period of the 6 weeks following your treatment. But it is our agreement together that you remain nicotine free in order to be entitled to continuing with the program. In the rare event that you slip up and use nicotine again you will be required to start the program over from the beginning. The need for an occasional "booster" beyond the 6 weeks is available for a small fee, but is seldom required.
My goal is the same as yours, to succeed at returning you to freedom from nicotine and all the benefits that come with this freedom. Some have described this as a method that helped them get past the withdrawal stage. In other words you have to personally want to be free from nicotine and continue the good behavior and commitment until such time that you have established a new, good habit.
