Struggling with Headaches or Migraines?

try chiropractic care for headache and migraine relief

Migraines and headaches are serious and affect too many people in Naperville. If you’re not sure if you have had a migraine or not, then chances are you probably have not had one. The pain can be mind numbing, and for many patients it leaves them unable to function. The traditional medical system relies on medication for this issue in most cases, but for many patients that’s not enough. It’s important to find the source of what’s causing the problem. Our chiropractic clinic in Naperville can help.

There are many symptoms that can occur before a headache or migraine starts. Hallucinations, depression, or irritation are just some of the symptoms that patients experience. Often those with migraines will try to avoid light, have an intolerance to loud noises, experience nausea and vomiting to name a few.

Headaches and Migraines in Naperville

It has been shown that chiropractic care is effective at helping people with both headaches and migraines. When the spine is aligned and pressure is removed from the nervous system, it can prevent migraine headaches from occurring. While most people know that they should visit the dentist, they often don’t understand that a chiropractor could help with this type of symptom. Dentists take care of our teeth, which is an important job, but your spine and nervous system control everything in your body.

For over one hundred years chiropractic care has been giving people relief from headaches and migraines. Chiropractors know and understand the nervous system's master role in the body. If the spine moves out of position it can put pressure on the surrounding nerves. This pressure can result in many problems, but it can also result in headaches.

So How are Headaches Treated?

The kind of treatment for headaches you need will depend on what is causing the problem. Our chiropractic team will work diligently to find the source of your headaches. Each year millions of dollars are spent treating headaches with aspirin and other drugs. While this may help in some cases, it is often not treating the cause of the problem. We are able to work at the source of the problem, which can help you prevent the need for headache medications.

Don’t suffer with headaches and migraines in Naperville. At Symmetry Chiropractic & Acupuncture our team will help you understand the cause of your condition and the treatment necessary to fix it. Feel free to call and ask any questions that you may have.

What’s the Difference between a Headache and a Migraine?

Generally called a “tension headache”, it is the most common, reported by almost three-fourths of all those who suffer headaches.

Characteristics of a tension headache may include:

  • A continually dull, achy pain on either both side or one side of the head. Many patients say these feel like a
  • tight band around their head or a persistent dull ache around the temples are behind the eyes.
  • Most often is progressive from dull to persistent pain.
  • Generally lasts from a few minutes or less than a week.
  • Often begins toward the middle of the day or at the end of the day.

Tension headaches can less than an hour to several days but chronic stress headaches may persist off on and on for several months. Though severe, a tension headache is not generally accompanied by nausea, vomiting, or throbbing.

Migraine Headaches
75% of patients with migraines are female. Some people report an attack one to four times per month while others don’t have another attack for up to a year.

Characteristics of a migraine can include:

  • Nausea
  • Sensitivity to bright light or loud noises
  • Intense, throbbing pain
  • Sometimes preceded by visual symptoms (aura) after some trigger.

Another kind of headache is called a cluster headache. Sometimes confused with migraines, these are what patients describe as blinding and excruciating. Unlike migraines, cluster headaches are more likely to affect men than women.

What Causes Chronic Headaches and Migraines

  • Emotional Factors - Depression, anxiety, and frustration are associated with the development of headaches.
  • Stress - Home life, school, the workplace, and traffic all produce their own kind of stress and unfortunately stress is the root of all headaches.
  • Triggers - Cluster headaches, in particular, can be triggered by certain odors, foods, hormonal changes, and weather.
  • Nitrates - Nitrate compounds dilate blood vessels and can be found in everything from heart medicine to hot dogs.
